How You Can Help...
Kobe Mariners' Centre is a charitable organisation; we get no money from outside sources, and any money we do make is used in our work with seafarers. Because of this we rely on help from the public - in terms of money and other things. If you feel able to help in any of the following ways, we would love to hear from you! Please contact us or call in to the Centre anytime.
We are always looking for the following:
Books, Magazines and Newspapers - Seafarers really appreciate having something to read during their long sea voyages, especially something in their own languages. The most common being Tagalog, Chinese, Russian, English and Indian Languages, but all are welcomed.
Used Clothing and Other Goods - Seafarers stay on board their vessels for long periods at a time, and sometimes don't get a chance to get clothes to keep them warm. Especially at the colder times of year, when these seafarers from generally warmer-climate countries have to work outside, it is nice for them to wear something a little warmer.
Emergency Translators - Sometimes we need people who are willing to help translate, especially if we need to visit seafarers in hospital. They feel alone, and to have somebody to speak their language with them is a great benefit.
Volunteers at the Centre - We are always happy to have people come and help at the Centre, either during the afternoon or in the evening - giving the seafarers somebody different to talk to. Imagine you've spent twelve months at sea with the same twenty people, it would make a nice change to talk to somebody new. Drivers for the Centre's minibus service (ferrying the seafarers between their vessels and the Centre) are also needed.
Knitting Hats - Especially during the colder months of the year, seafarers like to keep a warm knitted hat on their heads - these have become common gifts from Centres around the world. If you are interested in knitting some, we can provide wool and patterns, if you can provide the time.
If you think you could help with any of the above, please contact us, email@example.com, or with any of the details on the front page.
